Rep. Lujan Grisham Reaction to Judge Kavanaugh Documents Discussing Women’s Rights and Affirmative Action

WASHINGTON, DC - Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after a news report disclosed emails from Judge Kavanaugh revealing his thoughts on women’s rights and affirmative action programs:

“These disturbing revelations confirm the nightmare of many Americans who believe Judge Kavanaugh will erode women’s rights and challenge programs that promote equity.

“The Judge’s comments questioning the precedent establishing a right to privacy in Roe v. Wade validates women and girls’ fears that their essential freedoms will be eroded and their right to make their own health choices will be infringed upon. His critical description of affirmative action regulations as a “naked racial set-aside” shows his ideological prejudice to programs that have promoted equity in education, healthcare, housing, and banking, and helped millions of minority and Native-American families and businesses thrive.

“These revelations underscore the critical importance of a full and thorough review of Judge Kavanaugh’s body of work. New Mexicans deserve to know the truth about Judge Kavanaugh and how his life-time appointment to the Supreme Court will affect their daily lives.”
