Rep. Lujan Grisham Continues Advocating for Bipartisan Farm Bill

Washington, D.C. - Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) released the following statement after House Republicans narrowly passed their partisan Farm Bill by a vote of 213 to 211:

“This partisan Farm Bill yet again leaves farmers, ranchers, and vulnerable New Mexican families behind. I am deeply disappointed that my colleagues failed to seize the opportunity to enact productive, bipartisan reforms that help farmers and rural communities by investing in broadband, water conservation, and trade promotion, or take meaningful steps to end the heinous practice of lunch shaming.

“Instead of finding ways to help children and families from going hungry, this bill puts up restrictions that make it harder for them to enroll in SNAP and increases their of likelihood of needlessly being kicked off the program. It also imposes a massive unfunded mandate on states that will further destabilize an already broken SNAP system in New Mexico.

“Unfortunately, this partisan bill fails to address the needs of our state struggling with one of the highest unemployment and poverty rates in the nation.”
