Lujan Grisham Welcomes Sandia Pricing Preference Which She Championed For New Mexico Businesses

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham welcomes the announcement from Sandia Laboratories that they are implementing a 5 percent New Mexico small business pricing preference that she championed.  The pricing preference will help New Mexico small businesses compete for Sandia subcontracts against out-of-state companies.

In a letter sent in March 2016 to then-Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz, Congresswoman Lujan Grisham encouraged DOE to preserve and expand Sandia’s economic footprint in the state, including implementing a pricing preference for New Mexico small businesses.  Rep. Lujan Grisham pointed out that a similar Regional Purchasing Program at LANL has strengthened the economy of Northern New Mexico, while meeting National Nuclear Security Administration expectations.

“I am happy to see that Sandia Labs is following through with their commitment to implement a pricing preference for New Mexico subcontractors. This win-win decision for New Mexico and Sandia will create a real opportunity for the state’s business enterprise to compete, grow, and stimulate greater economic development,” Rep. Lujan Grisham said.  I remain committed to continuing to strengthen Sandia programs that not only support our businesses, schools, and workforce, but also ultimately contribute to Sandia’s national security mission.”

The new 5 percent pricing preference incentivizes the use of local and regional subcontractors and vendors. Sandia’s procurement policies have the opportunity to strengthen local business enterprise, stimulate greater employment and infrastructure within the state, increase the business tax base, and reduce regional dependence on federal investment.
