Lujan Grisham Statement on President Obama's Budget Proposal

Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01), a member of the House Budget Committee, released the following statement in response to the President's proposed budget for the federal government. Rep. Lujan Grisham will have an opportunity to question the President's budget director during a Budget Committee meeting on Wednesday:

"New Mexico is not realizing the same economic growth as the rest of the country primarily because of across-the-board, Republican budget cuts that disproportionately hurt working families in our state," Rep. Lujan Grisham said. "I agree with the President's goal of reversing sequestration cuts that Republicans have planned for next year, which if implemented, will further cripple New Mexico's economy.

"I will use my role on the House Budget Committee to draw attention to New Mexico's economy, and push back hard against Republican plans for additional sequestration cuts that will directly affect our national laboratories and their national security mission. We should be investing in that mission, and doing everything possible to give New Mexico the opportunity to recover from the recession."
