Lujan Grisham Statement on the Passage of the Albuquerque, New Mexico, Federal Land Conveyance Act of 2013

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham applauded the final passage of legislation that allows the Amy Biehl High School Foundation to purchase the Old Post Office building in Downtown Albuquerque.

The House passed the Senate version of the bill today, sponsored by Sen. Tom Udall. Rep. Lujan Grisham sponsored the House version of the bill, which passed the House in June. The legislation now heads to President Obama for his signature.

“Passing this bill would provide a permanent home to a high school located in the heart of Downtown Albuquerque that provides quality education to at-risk students,” Rep. Lujan Grisham said after passage of S. 898. “I would like to extend my gratitude to Senator Tom Udall for working with me on this bill and to Chairman Shuster and Ranking Member Rahall for their help in bringing this legislation to the floor.”

“The Amy Biehl High School and the Amy Biehl High School Foundation are thrilled to learn that Congress has passed legislation granting Amy Biehl High School the right to purchase our beautiful historic building in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico!  We are very grateful to Senator Tom Udall, Congresswoman Michelle Lujan Grisham and numerous other public servants and all of the supporting staff members, as well as the broader community who supported this bill and our school."
