Lujan Grisham Responds to Nomination of Alex Azar for HHS Secretary

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S Representative Michelle Lujan Grisham released the following statement in response to President Trump’s nomination of Alex Azar for the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

“President Trump’s nominee for HHS secretary Alex Azar is the wrong choice to lead the agency responsible for holding pharmaceutical companies accountable. As a former executive at Eli Lilly, Azar oversaw exorbitant price hikes for prescription drugs which hurt patients and their families,” Rep. Lujan Grisham said.  The incoming HHS Secretary has a responsibility to increase access to and affordability of prescription drugs and hold pharmaceutical companies accountable for the prices they charge for critical medications.  Alex Azar would be the wrong choice to accomplish those goals.”

Rep. Lujan Grisham joined colleagues in sending a letter to the Senate Finance Committee urging them to conduct a thorough examination of Azar’s nomination and ensure his responses affirm a strong commitment and vision to decreasing drug costs.
